As you may have heard, New Smyrna Beach is known as the “Shark Bite Capital of the World”. Your chances of getting bit by a shark in New Smyrna Beach are ten times higher than anywhere else in the nation. So, it only stands to reason that if you want to fish for sharks, you want to do it here!

Ah, but Florida itself is also known as the “Fishing Capital of the World,” a distinctive moniker of which to be proud. So let’s talk chances when it comes to fish…Florida Seafood and Aquaculture Statistics state that with over 87 million pounds of seafood harvested each year, Florida ranks 11 in the entire United States for seafood production. Plus, according to the Florida Department of Agriculture, Florida fisherman catch more than 84 percent of the nation’s supply of grouper, mullet, pompano, stone crabs, pink shrimp, spiny lobster and Spanish mackerel; and that is just naming some of the top catches. As you might surmise, you can catch quite a few more fish species than that here in Florida and by the boatload; or, of course, as much as the Department of Fish and Game allows.
