Boating the East Coast

Let’s face it, the airport experience has become absolutely dreadful. So why not trade in that painful air travel and, when you feel that navigational pull, chart your course for the sea…and what better place to peruse by boat than the East Coast?

Starting at the top is Portland, Maine and all its rugged coastal beauty. Also among the most popular East Coast ports of call are Martha’s Vineyard, with its downtown patio bars and vibrant cultural scene, and historic Cape Cod. Cape May, offering antiquing and elegant Victoria architecture, is a must-see locale; as well as Annapolis, which is bursting crabs by the bushel and nestled along the picturesque Chesapeake Bay.

Plus, Virginia is still for lovers and it is no wonder with all Virginia Beach’s sugary white sand and boatloads of laid-back appeal. You also may want to consider a stop along the Outer Banks, a North Carolina respite from the bustling city. Who knows, you may even catch a glimpse of its famous ponies!

Continue to make your way south to take in the old-style charm of Charleston, South Carolina; and then Tybee Island in Georgia, which is a coastal destination celebrated for dolphin watching and reminiscing of pirate days gone by.

Don’t forget Florida, a seafarer’s dream, including:  St. Augustine – our nation’s oldest city with a regal Spanish Fort gracing its coastline; the Florida Keys – where you will find a 100-mile-long stretch of islands full of fishing and fun; and everything in between, like Cocoa Beach and the Kennedy Space Center, a destination which is unequivocally out of this world!
